Maurice was educated at Greenmount College, Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, Writtle College, University Of Wolverhampton and the University of Ulster. He was awarded a Masters in Horticulture by the Royal Horticultural Society in 1975.

He has over 40 years experience in horticulture and arboriculture. Having lectured at Staffordshire College and then Greenmount College he then took a position at Belfast City Council from 1988 until retirement in late 2006. Whilst at Belfast City Council Maurice became Director of Parks and was in overall control of the Council’s many famous parks and gardens such as the Botanic Gardens, the City of Belfast International Rose Gardens, Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park and Belfast Castle Estate.
Outside Belfast City Council Maurice has participated in judging panels and lectured on gardening in places as far a field as Tokyo, Philadelphia, Rome and Baden-Baden. He also appears regularly on BBC Radio Ulster’s Gardeners Corner.
Maurice continues to talk, design and advise on gardens and parks of all shapes and sizes through out Ireland.
Joy was educated at Birmingham University and the University of Ulster.
She has taught at both
Belfast Metropolitan College and North Regional College.
Joy has been propagating and selling plants for over 20 years and is well know amongst growing circles and keen gardeners in the country. Joy established the nursery at Ballyrobert Cottage Garden and continues to grow plants for the retail market.
