GARDENING CONSULTANCY SERVICE

A PERSONAL PROFILE

Having trained at Greenmount College, Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, Writtle College and the University of Ulster, coupled with the unique experience at a number of major horticultural establishments I am pleased to be able to offer this garden consultancy service.

My experience in horticulture and arboriculture is extensive and culminated in me acquiring the position of Director of Parks for Belfast City Council in 1988 a position I held until 31st December 2006. This involved overall control of the Council's many famous horticultural properties such as Botanic Gardens, the City of Belfast  International Rose Gardens, Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park, and Belfast Castle and its gardens. The many trees planted in Belfast during this time were initiated by myself and were professionally cared for by my staff.

In a more personal capacity my wife Joy and I purchased our home at Ballyrobert and have developed over the past 10 years the Ballyrobert Cottage Garden and Nursery with its unique layout and extensive collection of herbaceous plants.

In addition my horticultural life to date has also involved me in giving advice,  providing consultancy, lecturing, demonstrating and participating in radio and television programmes.

THE SERVICE PROVIDED

The service aims to bring to the fore this unique and extensive experience and the following is provided for gardens big and small:-

  • Soil surveys including drainage assessments
  • Garden design and preparation of planting plans
  • Garden management/maintenance plans
  • Tree and vegetation surveys and reports
  • Plant disorder, pest, disease and weed identification and control
  • Preparation of contract specifications and documentation
